Obituary for Dixie Dillon

Dixie  Dillon
Dixie (Newsome) Dillon of Dingess, WV was born at Parsley, WV on September 3, 1923. On April 4, 2016 Dixie departed this life at the age of 92.

She was the daughter of the late Dee and Nicati Runyon Newsome. She is survived by one loving brother, Jimmy Newsome also of Dingess.

She was a homemaker and beloved wife of Ashley Sidney Dillon for 52 years until his death in 1993. She was the devoted mother of 5 children Dixie and Sid were blessed with. Barbara Gilman of Chapmanville, WV; Shirley Howell of Severn, MD; Twins: Maxine Likens of Dingess, WV and Christine Rice of South Point, OH; and Arnold Sidney Dillon of Dingess, WV. She was the dear grandmother of 9 grandsons and 2 granddaughters: Derek (Sabrina) Gilman; Stephen (Mary) Gilamn; Shawn Goff; Teresa (Donald) Robidoux; Edward (Phyllis) Preston; Vanessa (Roger) Fleming; Keith (Sharon) Goff; Christopher (Kelley) Preston; James Richard Golf; Marcus (Jennifer) Howell; and Jackie (Shelly) Rice Jr. She is also survived by multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Dixie helped to take care of her younger sisters and brother Jimmy when her mother passed away and her father had to work. She worked hard as a young woman as well as all her life. She was a Polio survivor and managed life well after Polio left her with a slight limp. She worked hard to overcome two strokes and has struggled with poor health for many years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday April 7, 2016 at James Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will follow in Sturgill Cemetery at the head on Laurel Creek. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday April 6, 2016 also at the funeral home.
