Obituary for Masil C. Maynard

Masil C.  Maynard
Masil C. Maynard, 84, of Chapmanville departed this life February 7, 2018 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 4, 1933 to the late S.V. (Vester) and Esta (Queen) Maynard. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: his brothers, Marvin, Stanford, and Bill Maynard; grandson, Erik Hall; and his best buddies, Tom Rose Tomblin and Clovis Adkins.

Masil was a 1950 graduate of Logan High School and later Marshall University. He was an educator and coach in Logan County for more than 30 years. He started his coaching career at Omar Jr. High in 1957. He also coached at Holden Jr. High, Logan East Jr. High, Logan High, and Man High School. He retired from teaching and coaching in 1989. He was a member of the Maryetta United Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Ermil Hannah-Maynard; 5 daughters, Kristi Maynard, Kathi Ramsey, Karren Dawn Maynard, Kandis Banks, and Kortni Harper; step-daughters, Tammy Morgan and Patricia Mashburn; grandchildren, LaMarr and Kohle Maynard, Camron Ramsey, Hannah Vance, Sara Justice, Kyndall, Kelsey, and Keatyn Harper; great-grandchildren, Jersey, Bristol, and London Vance, Amelia Justice and Kannon Ramsey; sister, Jean Maynard; brother, Darrell (Frances) Maynard; sister-in-law, Jane Maynard; brother-in-law, Elvin (Audrey Nell Littleton) Reed; the mother of his children, Phyllis Rankin Maynard, caregiver, Wendi Gordon, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday February 12, 2018 at Akers-James Funeral Home at Logan with Jack Baisden and Pastors Lonnie Gore and Barney Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Tomblin Cemetery at Rockhouse.

Pallbearers will be: LaMarr Maynard, John and Todd Keefer, Seth Hainer, Leroy and Joe Sharp, and Greg Jackson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Melvin Meade, Toby Toney, Gary Morgan, Leon Cazin, Josh Vance, Jimmy Justice, Dennis Gordon, John Mills, Tom, Tim, and Ted Tomblin, Bill Weese, and the Deacons of the Maryetta United Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday February 11, 2018 also at the funeral home.
